What pigmentation can look like

Pigmentation can show up in lots of different ways, including:


• Sun spots and age spots
• Freckles that darken over time
• Post-acne marks and uneven tone
• Hormonal patches on the cheeks, forehead or upper lip
• General dullness or “mottled” skin

  • What it is & how it looks:
    Flat, darkened spots caused by years of sun exposure, often appearing on the face, chest, or hands.

    How we treat it:
    Advanced lasers (Frax, IPL) and professional peels are the most effective. Microneedling may also support by refreshing skin tone, but laser/IPL remain the first-line approach.

    Expected outcome:
    Most sunspots fade significantly or clear with a short treatment series. Maintenance may be recommended to prevent new spots from developing.

  • What it is & how it looks:
    Dark marks left behind after acne, breakouts, or skin irritation.

    How we treat it:
    Microneedling and RF microneedling are highly effective at stimulating fresh skin renewal and improving tone. Professional peels and light-based treatments may also be recommended for faster clearance.

    Expected outcome:
    PIH is very responsive, with noticeable results often seen within a few treatments. Ongoing skincare helps prevent recurrence.

  • What it is & how it looks:
    A hormonally driven pigmentation condition, appearing as symmetrical, patchy brown areas across the cheeks, forehead, or upper lip.

    How we treat it:
    Gentle laser therapies (Frax), specialised peels (such as MelanoPro), and tailored homecare. (IPL is not suitable for melasma and will not be recommended. Microneedling may help improve skin quality but is not the primary treatment).

    Expected outcome:
    Up to 85% improvement can be achieved. However, melasma is chronic, and ongoing maintenance is usually required to keep it under control.

    What it looks like: Pigment affecting the cheeks, forehead, upper lip & jawline. More common in women. Common in darker skin ethnicities.

    Treatment: Picosecond lasers, chemical peels & medical therapy.

    Outcome: 85% of melasma can be treated

  • What it is & how it looks:
    Small, light-brown spots that are often genetic but can darken or multiply with sun exposure.

    How we treat it:
    Laser and IPL treatments are most effective. Microneedling may help brighten skin overall, but cannot selectively remove freckles. Sun protection is key to preventing recurrence.

    Expected outcome:
    Freckles often lighten significantly, but may reappear with sun exposure — we’ll give you the tools to maintain your results long term.

  • This depends on the type of pigmentation, how deep it sits in the skin, your natural skin tone, and the treatment we perform (IPL, Frax, microneedling, peels). Some pigmentation responds quickly, while others require a structured series.
    We will assess your skin during your consultation and give you a clear, personalised treatment plan.

  • No. IPL can worsen melasma, so we do not use IPL for melasma treatment. We choose alternative modalities such as fractional laser resurfacing (Frax) or customised clinical protocols.

    Frax (fractional laser) treats deeper, stubborn pigmentation, texture, and photo-ageing.
